Patriots Could Be Preparing To Trade Wes Welker

Sep 13, 2014 6:09 PM

While the New England Patriots dispute the notion that they are phasing out Wes Welker, several sources said they could be preparing to trade him.

In giving more snaps to Julian Edelamn, the Patriots may be evaluating how their offense can perform without Welker.

Several sources said a trade by New England of Welker is more than a remote possibility.

A team source within the Patriots said the speculation concerning Welker being phased out os wrong.

"All of this about Wes just isn't true," the official said. "He isn't being phased out. He isn't being phased out. He's not being punished. All of this speculation is just wrong. It's flat-out wrong."

The official added: "Think about how obvious it would be to phase out Wes Welker."

Source: Tebow Will Want Trade At End Of Season If Role Remains Limited

Sep 13, 2014 3:37 AM

If Tim Tebow has a limited role backing up Mark Sanchez at quarterback this season at the New York Jets, a source expects him to approach the front office about a possible trade.

“I think he will be a good soldier,” one NFL source said Wednesday. “At the end of the year, I think he will express those concerns to the Jets. He will want to move on. The one thing about Tebow is he is the quintessential team player. He would never do anything that is going to undermine the team. But he’s football-aholic. It’s in his blood.”

Tebow's contracts runs through 2014 and wants to be a starting quarterback again.

“Absolutely he will talk to the Jets or we will have misevaluated his competitive nature,” the source said. “There comes a point, where they get it and realize this is who I am and just accept that role. Tebow is not there yet.”

Exec: Packers May Take 2nd Round Pick For Greg Jennings

Nov 10, 2014 5:26 PM

Greg Jennings is in the final season of his current contract with the Green Bay Packers and is expected to command a salary above the $11.1 million annual average that Vincent Jackson agreed to with the Buccaneers.

The Packers have been unable to advance in their discussions with Jennings' agent Eugene Parker.

Bob McGinn of the Journal Sentinel suggests the Packers consider trading him before the deadline.

"Everybody will posture as high as they can get," an executive in personnel said. "But I would think Green Bay would be comfortable taking a second-round pick. It's much better to get something for him than just let him go in free agency.

"I certainly would be comfortable with a two. Pushing 30. Injury stuff. Has had a little bit of a slow start. He's looking for a lot of money so people will say, 'I have to pay this amount of money; I don't know if I want to give up the one and the money.'"

The most logical landing spots would be Miami, Buffalo, Cleveland, Indianapolis and Oakland in the AFC and Carolina, Seattle and St. Louis in the NFC.

The Packers would be left with a depth chart of Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Randall Cobb, Donald Driver and Jarrett Boykin.

Buccaneers Won't Receive 7th Round Pick From Seahawks For Winslow

Sep 13, 2014 3:24 AM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will currently not receive compensation from the Seattle Seahawks for the Kellen Winslow trade.

The Seahawks acquired Winslow in May in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick. The pick was conditional on Winslow being on the roster, which he currently is now. If Winslow rejoins the Seahawks, then a pick would be conveyed.

Eagles' Trades Of McNabb, Kolb May Have Kept Teams Shy Of Kafka

Oct 31, 2014 9:49 AM

With Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Trent Edwards ahead of Mike Kafka on the Philadelphia Eagles' depth chart at quarterback, the team attempted to trade him before cut day.

But the Eagles couldn't find a taker for Kafka and were unable to receive a return for a former fourth round pick.

Andy Reid has won three recent trades involving quarterbacks in sending Donovan McNabb to the Redskins, Kevin Kolb to the Cardinals and A.J. Feeley to the Dolphins.

Mallett's Value Potential Increases With Hoyer Cut

Oct 31, 2014 9:49 AM

The New England Patriots surprisingly cut backup quarterback Brian Hoyer on Friday, leaving Ryan Mallett behind Tom Brady.

The Patriots used a third round pick on Mallett in the 2011 NFL Draft and this move is a similar value play.

Mallet's value would increase significantly if even one team believes he is a future NFL starter should he receive playing time in 2012.

"He’s in the on-deck circle," said Bill Belichick. "He’s the next guy, which he wasn’t really in that position before. He’s earned that spot now."

Packers Cut B.J. Coleman, Will Only Have Two QBs On Roster

Oct 31, 2014 9:48 AM

The Green Bay Packers cut B.J. Coleman, leaving the team with just two quarterbacks on the roster in Aaron Rodgers and Graham Harrell.

Coleman was a seventh round choice out of Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Many have believed general manager Ted Thompson needed to acquire a reliable backup familiar with the West Coast offense such as Colt McCoy.
